Mom's Birthday!
A side benefit of this tax school is that it got me to town for Mom's birthday yesterday. After an excruciating rush hour drive up I-94 at an average speed of maybe 15 mph (I love Des Moines traffic!), I got to Retta's house for the party. Retta served a glorious leg of lamb with mashed potatoes and beans. Mmmm!
Here's the birthday girl!

Nephew Jay, the big 1st grader:

Anna, niece and princess, with Retta:

And nephew Ben:

Birthday cake!

Followed by a vigorous round of "pile on Uncle Joe!"

I also got to see Tina, Majid and Matthew, and my brother Ed. Even for just one meal, it's always good to see everyone. Lots of excitement, and I fell asleep quickly when I got back to Chicago and my room. One of the little joys in life - going to bed without setting an alarm. I didn't wake up until 7:30. After I get some breakfast it's back on the road to Iowa.

It looks like a great party! Your mom looks very pleased with her Cubs book. Who wouldn't be!
Accountants gone wild!
It was great to see you. Mom enjoyed the visit. Meg was wonderful in the play- it's too bad you couldn't have stayed one more day.
