At Chicago's Indigo Hotel
So I'm in Chicago for a tax school. Coming off the deadly hackvirus, two weeks worth of coughing and fever, the trip to Chicago for a two-day tax school wasn't as exciting a prospect as it seemed when I set it up last spring, but here we are.
As usual, I got my room on the internet through Hotwire.com. The Hotel Indigo is a 10-minute walk (mostly down rush street) from the tax school, which is at the Knickerbocker hotel, a block north of the Hancock Center.
I underdressed, so walking around tonight seems a bad idea. I must be too accustomed to skywalks, and I neglected to bring a warm overcoat. So what to do? Stay indoors and blog about the hotel room!
It's a funky hotel, as you can tell starting with the lobby:

I'm a pretty boring tourist. If the bed looks good, I can forgive many sins:

But there really are no sins to forgive, once you get past what the room costs in the first place. No $80 Hilton rooms this visit, unfortunately. But by staying Friday night, so I can see Mom on her birthday tomorrow, I got the price down to gaggable levels.
And it is a nice room. I love the wood floor, and the little desk and armoire (no closet):

Oee wall is covered with photos of - I'm not sure what. Either accumulated sea glass or very close-up pictures of acquarium gravel:

Of course, the bathroom is a vital part of the hotel experience:

This one had a feature I had never before encountered: the little wooden chair/stool in the shower:

It's a pretty heavy little piece of furniture, which led me to conclude that it stays in the shower when you use it. Having just been sick, I sort of understand how a sick person might want to sit down during a shower. Also a very hungover person. Otherwise, it's a mystery to me.
One interesting thing about the Indigo: much attention to detail. There's the indigo phone:

Matching shell-shaped knobs everywhere:

Even the showerhead:

The one item that threw me: the updside-down vanity mirror:

Or am I the one who is upside down?
Anyway, I look forward to turning in early for a good night sleep, so I am well rested to drive up to Waukegan to have birthday cake with Mom tomorrow, after another exciting day of tax school. How I stand up to my exciting life, I'll never know.

When I'm away with work, I get to stay in hotels that we can't afford in real life and it makes being away from home a little more bearable. You sure found a fancy one! Good thing its convenient!
I hope your mother has a nice birthday.
Very stylish pad.
I can only imagine what it would look like after a visit from my kids....
It was great to see you. I hope you got a good nights rest and have an nice ride back in your slick midlife-crises-red car ;)
