All State!

The killer woke before dawn. He put his boots on. He took his bass from the ancient gallery, and he walked on down the hall.

Actually, he loaded the double bass in the Camry, and at 6:30 a.m. began the lonesome dark drive to Indianola for the All-state auditions. Given that I've been home from work fighting the bug, I didn't go with him like I did last year.

The world waited anxiously for the 9:00 a.m. call: Dan made it! He is one of four bassists chosen from Central Iowa for the All-State orchestra, and one of 16 statewide.

Our hero returns:

A triumphal pose:

Way to go, Dan! He is now having a celebratory late breakfast out with Heather at the Machine Shed restaurant. Sounds like punishment to me (the restaurant, not the date), but tastes differ...

I remember how gut wrenching those All-State try outs were. I never even made runner up all those years ago. So it's a huge whoop and hearty congratulations from over here! Well done Dan!!
