Tax Season

Yes, it is in full swing, and posting has obviously suffered. My apologies.

It's not all taxes. Last night was the annual chess battle between Rob's school, Fairmeadows, vs. Western Hills. Rob took two points in his two completed games, helping Fairmeadows retain the traveling trophy. I was a supervising parent, so I didn't get many pictures. I did get a few:

The supervising was a bit more of a challenge than I had expected. The Western Hills team was undermanned, so we had a lot of kids spending a lot of times waiting for an opponent, which leads to crowd control and noise problems. The kids were pretty good, thought, and amazingly patient.

So afterwards Rob and I came home; Vickie was at a band concert of Dan's, which I figured I was too late to get to. I opened a cold tasty beer to celebrate the Fairmeadows triumph, and who calls but Dan Kruse, who was my dorm neighbor my freshman year at Cornell. I hadn't heard from him in many years. It was nice to talk to him;

Now that Dinner drama is over*, Vickie's will have more time. Unfortunately, as April 15 approaches, I will have less. The dinner drama is a fund raiser for the church youth, primarily for the trip to England they do every five years - and this summer is the year. Vickie co-directed the play, "13 Past Midnight," a comic murder mystery.

In other years Dan has done lights, and last year he also played Uncle Henry in the Wizard of Oz, but the Albuquerque trip got in the way this year. While he didn't participate in the show, he did help set up the lights in advance:

Now to make this a completely random post: I woke up this morning from a dream that I was back at Carbondale to take classes at Southern Illinois University, starting the next day. Except I had one problem - I had forgotten to arrange a place to live. So the dream was about me realizing my homeless plight and thinking about what to do. I did the logical thing under the circumstances - I woke up, solving the problem. In real life, I would have called Tom.

*Well, it's over except for Vickie writing a zillion thank you notes and so on. I think she may be done by April 15...

Good luck with the tax season.
