Men alone

Vickie and Dan left yesterday for a church work project at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. That sounds like a good gig, but they will be there replacing the campground roofs, so it's not as nice as it sounds.

Meanwhile, Bobby and I are batching it. I will be a working single dad this week. Sitters are lined up for the afternoons, but I will be "telecommuting" in the morning. Whether I will get any work done remains to be seen.

After dropping Vickie and Dan at the church, Bobby and I got on our bikes. We even did some "stunt" mountain biking on an unauthorized trail some kids have made off the main trail. I think the kids do it better with their lower gravity, but I didn't break anything.

Then it was time to go home to find out that Amazon had dropped off the new Harry Potter book, right on schedule.

I cleaned up the basement "office" for the work week. Then came the first test: feeding ourselves. That required actual housework:

Yet we survived this challenge. Bobby looks satisfied with Dad's effort:

Falling back on long-ago bachelor training, we naturally selected a manly meal. But while Bobby and I strive to be manly men, we are no barbarians. Thus a nice 1/2 bottle of wine, purchased on the bike trip and backpacked home.

Steak, baked potato (sweet potato for Bobby), apple slices, and salad. Yum.

Vickie called to tell us that they arrived safely. It sounds like they'll have fun, when they aren't on hot roofs.

After ice cream for dessert, we cleaned up, got ready for bed, and read the first three chapters of the new Harry Potter book together. All in all, bachelor day one went well, but the house is lonesome with just the two of us.

Sounds like a nice time for you guys to hang out and enjoy each other's company.

Somehow the idea of a mission trip to Lake Geneva still sounds funny. I hope the roofing goes well.

I'm sure they'll have a great time up at Lake Geneva however, you'll have fewer mosquitos in Des Moines.

Why does Bobby have a sweet potato instead of an ordinary one? Does he prefer them?

That steak looks fab! Nothin like Iowa beef!

Yes, Bobby prefers the sweet potatoes, with lots of brown sugar!
