The old house

When Bobby and I went to the parade in our old neighborhood on Saturday, we parked on 46th Street, the house we used to live on. We stopped to get a picture of the old place:

It was a nice house, though I think it would seem a bit small if we were still there. It was unbelievably sturdy by today's standards. For example, the entire upstairs supported by 1 x 6 boards holding up the plywood. It was built in 1941, and was probably one of the last houses built like that. I can't imagine what that construction would cost today.

There have been some changes. The bushes that used to be in front of the window on the end of the house are gone, and the lawn is nice than we ever kept it. They still have the big ash tree in front and the maple that shed branches all over the backyard and the roof during the great ice storm of 1989(?) out back. There used to be a wooden fence that you would have been able to see on the left side of the house in this picture that screened off the back patio.

We have many nice memories of the old house; we moved to our current house when Dan was 4, so Bobby never lived there. I bet it's making somebody a cozy house right now.
