Dead computer

In May the hard drive of the main computer at the Kristans died. As the warranty was good to July, we dutifully shipped the beast to Gateway, and they sent it back with a new hard drive. It arrived working, but with all data gone from the hard drive. Fortunately we back it up, and after untold hours, things were working again, more or less.

Sunday the screen opened with an unhappy note "No hard drive found." I checked with Gateway and found out that the warranty on the warranty work was only 90 days. They also said, in almost so many words, what do you expect from a three-year old computer anyway? So that's it for doing business with Gateway, for me.

So I'm posting from the backup laptop. After checking reliability ratings, I went out and got a new iMac last night, and I plan to set it up with "Pareallels" software to run both Mac and Windows. That's my home project for the week - that and again restoring data, pictures, music, etc.

In short - no pictures today here, so go visit Dan's comprehensive Homecoming post.
