Taking home the trophy
Western Hills elementary shool hosted the first Fairmeadows - Western Hills annual chess match last night. 50 or 60 kids from 1st through 6th grades spread out at the Western Hills library to compete for a traveling trophy.
Mr. Munson coaches at both schools, and he refereed the event:

With so many games going, he was pretty busy, so I helped out with the upstairs (1st grade through 3rd grade) matches. Other parents took down the scores and sent the kids to new matches when the games ended. Like any first-time thing, it was a bit chaotic, but the parents did a nice job. They tried to set up a new game as soon as one was over so the kids could keep playing and not have to wait around.

Bobby was a rock! Even though he's in 3rd grade, he ended up playing three of his five games with the 4th - 6th graders. He won 4 points for the Fairmeadows team...
