Big Snow!

Saturday night and Sunday Morning we got a nice, big snow. The timing was perfect. Sunday morning I got up at my usual time for exercise, but instead of climbing on the ski machine in the basement, I put on my real cross-country skis and went out.

I love the way the camera flash lights up the falling snow.

One of the things I like about skiing is the way you can explore places you don't otherwise see, like the bed of Jordan Creek in the morning.

It kept snowing, but the day started to brighten. I saw the first of about 10 deer. This one was standing on a frozen lake.

I got to about the other end of the Raccoon River park lake - actually an old gravel pit now turned into park land - and stopped. Here's the view from the end of the line. For you geology fans in the audience, this picture shows right where the last glaciel advance ended.

Then I retraced my tracks up Jordan Creek and back home.

I was out about three hours. I was really ready for breakfast when I got back!

Pretty snow! You're lucky to have such a nice morning.

Your snowflakes in the dark photo reminds me a lot of my night diving photos. If you use flash (and you have to because it's dark) all the particles suspended in the water reflect back.
