Air and Space

Bobby and I slept in this morning, and then took the Metro down to the mall to see the National Air and Space Museum. To me it's incredible to see things like actual Apollo and Gemini space capsules...

but I think to Bobby it's largely just a bunch of old stuff. He was intrigued by a Cray Supercomputer, a 12,000-lb behemoth of the 1980s that probably rivals this borrowed laptop in computing power.

We don't have a lot of pictures because the rechargeable battery pooped out. After lunch it occurred to me to try plain old AAs. They worked, and these happy pictures are the first we took when we realized we had a camera again.

The revived camera set the stage for my geekiest adventure of the day: a tourist visit to the Tax Court Building! You can tell Bobby was excited:

The tax Court is a big, cold looking structure made out of dark glass and pebbly concrete. The entrance doesn't even face the street; it's as if they feel they need to hide. A strange and bureaucratic looking place.

The real goal was to get some graphics for the work blog. We'll see how it goes. I will try to get some appeals court and Supreme Court pictures too. Woo hoo!

Tomorrow we rent a car for a Civil War tour day. We'll go to Petersburg and Appomattox and spend the night tomorrow in Richmond. That's even more exciting a prospect than seeing the Tax Court building!

When I visited my mom in DC last spring, we went on one of the busses with the audio tour. It was v. interesting. The civil war stuff should be much more fun than the IRS buildings (poor Bobby).

Joe and Bobby's most excellent adventures!

I agree with Peggy on the tax court and IRS building poor Bobby. Are you going for a joke about the IRS taking children as payment with that one photo? ;)

Have a great time and Happy Father's Day!
