Settling into summer

Summer break has begun for the boys. For Mom and Dad, though, it's a pre-vacation scramble. We leave on vacation in a week, adn there is much to do! More on that in another post.

Dan is spending a lot more time working at Hy-Vee. Here's what a Working Dan looks like:

He does a lot of the same things I did in my grocery store career, but updated for the times. He bags mostly in the awful plastic bags they use now; I still prefer paper, because I think the plastic bags tend to squash things. Instead of sorting 16-ounce glass returnable pop bottles, Dan sorts empty beer bottles - the returnable pop bottles are no more - and feeds cans into the recycling crusher. In my store we carried groceriers to the car, while Hy-Vee has a drive-up bay. And while Dan stocks shelves like I did, he doesn't have to put a price tag or stamp on every item; the bar codes take care of that.

I think he likes it there. I liked grocery work. I think it's good for him to do something like this that Mom and Dad have no supervisory role in!

Wow! I din't know Dan was working! Good for him.

Nothing like low paying jobs to keep you in school.

"Where there's a helpful smile in every aisle!"

Bless his hardworking heart. Has he forgiven you for taking photos of him at work?

No more paper bags? No more big returnable glass bottles of Mt Dew? Don't tell me any more!!!

Yes, the returnable bottles are no more, but at least I still have scars on my hands from sorting the d**n things to remember them by.
