Pinewood Derby, 2007

Saturday was Pinewood Deby day for Bobby's cub scout troop. Each scout receives a kit with a block of wood, four nails and four plastic wheels. The scout - well, the scout Dad, generally, with the advice of the scout -converts it into a low-tech racing machine. For me, it's a dreaded chore that usually runs to the last minute. This year the purchase of a power tool helped, though the paint job and final assembly was completed the night before. The result? This sleek racer:
