Iowa Elementary Championships
The Fairmeadows chess club took its game on the road Saturday when it competed at the Iowa Elementary Team Championships. The kids nearly swept the first round, winning 6 1/2 of 8 possible points, before settling back to 8th in the 15 or so team field. They did well, especially for their first tournament together.

The tournament was in St. Theresa's parish hall, less than 10 minutes from our house, but there were schools from all over the state.

Rob took two of five possible points in his games.

The tournament was won by a huge team from Fellowes school in Ames. I think we were up against a lot of professor kids (imagined motto: "we synthesize our own boards and pieces from common household materials."). So - lick 'em next year!
