Ice Road Trucksters

Dan and I are in Bloomington, Indiana, where tomorrow he auditions for the jazz and classical bass programs. He took lessons from the bass professors in each department today. The jazz guy was very upbeat, and he pretty much said the only issue with Dan is how much scholarship. The classical guy was much more reserved, and Dan didn't get a good feeling out of it.

The trip from Des Moines to Bloomington was an adventure. We followed a blizzard here, and we're glad the family truckster got us through. Not everyone was so lucky:

The worst of it was probably the 60 miles or so east and west of Iowa City.

We saw almost no wrecks once we got to Illinois, even though the roads weren't plowed as well.

It was incredibly cold the whole way out, with howling winds. I feel sorry for anyone who went off the road - it was horrible. It was so cold in West Des Moines - it was 16 below this morning - that they closed all metro area schools. It only got up to about 6 here in Bloomington.

Wish Dan luck in the auditions tomorrow!
