High Water

It's been raining a lot around here. We had a four inch downpour two days ago, and it rained all morning today. It has been a cold, wet spring, and the ground can't hold much more. The creek is rising.

Here the street down by the McDonalds is closed by rising Walnut Creek.

Here's the raging creek. Notice the rails going into the water - that's usually a bike trail under there.

They may need to lower the flood gates that keep the Val Air ballroom and other low-lying parts of West Des Moines dry if it keeps raining. And it looks like it will

But Brownie is taking it calmly:

I think he misses Dan. We got a message from one of the parent-chaperones that they sang at Wesley's City Chapel this morning and sounded "angelic." Of course!

We're pondering a big European vacation next summer, as it will be our last one before Dan goes away to college. We bought a travel guide and a map of Europe. With 2-3 weeks, we have to be selective, but I think we'll all want to go to Ireland, and maybe ferry from Belfast to Scotland to swing by Whitelees before we head to London. But we're just starting to plan, and are open to any suggestions!

I suggest you never travel to Europe without your sister ;)

I have no real suggestions. John's Mom and sister are in Germany now. They pretty much stick to Germany, Austria and Hungary to visit relatives.

Peggy: Is there a ferry from Belfast to Scotland?

Retta: How rusty is your German?

Of course there are ferries to and from Belfast, loads of them! From Belfast to Stranraer, Cairnryan or Troon. Troon is the furthest from us but closest to Glasgow. The main ferry is Stena Line.
