Floodiness
Now that the flood is gone, it's a bit late for this, but here are some shots of the river last Thursday, after we had picked Dan up at the airport on his return from England.
This is an old railroad bridge that has been redone as a pedestrian bridge. It's pretty nice. Usually it's at least 10 feet above the water. In the foreground you can see the heavy steel pilings that were sunk to shore up the levee after the 1993 flood.
This is 2nd Avenue at Walnut street. During the rains the sewers backed up to nearly waist level, ruining the restaurant in the basement of the building across the street. I hope it comes back; the restaurant that was in that space during the 1993 flood never really recovered.
