Night skiing
I went skiing in Brown's woods Sunday night. Browns Woods is a beautiful old-growth timber stand right on the edge of West Des Moines. Never cultivated, it's full of ancient walnut and oak trees. A lot of them took a beating during the ice and snow storm.
This first picture shows the path I was on, with downed branches blocking the way.

Another tough spot on the trail:

It was actually much brighter than these pictures make it look. I could see perfectly wellm even though the pictures make it look pitch black. It gives you fun effects:

...these pictures look like something the robot cameras in the Titanic would have taken.

More freezing rain and snow for today. Just what we need - many still have no power in northeast Iowa, and now here comes more. We are very lucky here in town.

I hope the power is on for them soon. Pipes freeze up so quickly this time of year. Lovely photos. I can imagine it perfectly. Did you see any good animal tracks?
