Ice and snow

Winter isn't done yet.

Yesterday started out with freezing rain. Then it warmed up a bit, but then it cooled and started freezing again. Then it started snowing. And snowing. Today the town is about shut. Almost every church cancelled Sunday services. Over 100,000 people have lost their power.

We're lucky in our neighborhood; the power lines are buried, so we won't have a snow-laden branch snap through the house power connection. Our trees came through with almost no damage. The neighbors were less fortunate. Their apple tree is in tatters:

I took advantage of the circumstances to make a rare big Sunday breakfast - waffles from scratch and bacon. Vickie added hash browns. Yum!

Still, it's tax season. I can connect to the office network from home, so I got some much needed work in while Dan shoveled the driveway. He worked very hard - it was wet heavy snow. But because I pay, and he needs the money, he insisted.

After finishing my work, Bobby and I went out back to play. The school playground was interesting:

It started snowing again. The house looked pretty in the falling snow behind the snow-frosted trees.

We even saw a rare snowboarder on the hill behind the house:

After Bobby and I had an energetic snowball fight, it was back up to the house. Bobby took a break and rested on the picnic table. Nearby the gas grill sleeps through the winter...

...and the wire tomato plant cages make little snow halos in memory of last summer's yummy Big Boy crop.

A fun day. I made a nice roast chicken for dinner and went skiing in Brown's Woods. The snow was good, but the woods were full of down trees and branches bent over the trail blocking the snow. Well worth the hassle to be out in the quiet snowy woods.

Your house does look pretty in the snow. I love how quiet it makes everything. I hope that those who are without power get it back soon.
