We are hosting our fifth exchange student. Our current student, from Thailand, is the first we have hosted without our own student in the house. But that only started today, in a way.
When our current student, whom I will refer to as π, arrived, she was greeted by two of our old students, Elina from Finland and José from Colombia. I think that may have helped her, having them here to show her the ropes.
We had a lot of great Des Moines adventures together, including a visit to the State Fair.
For a couple of days, both of our own boys were in town too, and we were able to get everyone together for a big Iowa steak dinner and corn feed.
Elina left about two weeks ago to go to New York on her way back to Finland. We warned her that New York City would seem tame after Des Moines, but did she listen?
We went to Chicago for Labor Day weekend, and this morning we left Jose to stay with our college son Rob to catch his flight back to Nariño.
Now it's just P and host Mom and Dad (and Pixie the Beagle). I miss Elina and José, and I still miss Anne and Sini, our other old exchange students. But now we really start our new adventure with π.
