71 years

Dad's B-24 crashed just off the beach at Argentella, Corsica, France, on the way back from a bombing run over Toulon 71 years ago today. Dad and three others survived out of the ten-man crew. Dad's survival was due to a rescue by David Korkuc, the tail gunner, who pulled him from the wreckage before it sank.

I'm glad Dad got so many bonus years. I wonder how often he thought of his crewmates who didn't make it.
