Riding to the high trestle bridge

They have put a new deck on an abandoned railroad bridge near Madrid, north of Des Moines. It was a beautiful warm (74f) day here, so we stuffed bikes in the minivan, got on the bike trail in Madrid, and headed to the High Trestle bridge.

When we got there, Ann and Rob posed over the river.

The bridge is laid across trestles built in 1971 -- I was surprised that they were that new, as they have been abandoned for at least 10 years. They were laid next to the path of an earlier bridge built in 1912. The abutment for that bridge is set up as an observation deck, where Ann and Rob took in the view:

One last shot on the west end of the bridge:

A great day for a ride!
