Last Dance for the Valley Jazz Orchestra

Last night was "Spring Fling Wing Ding," the annual party for the Valley Band program. This year they had a new venue, the Iowa Historical Building. Because the weather was nice, the bands got to set up on the terrace outside. A beautiful night, a beautiful setting.

It was bittersweet. It was fun to get together with the parents we've been attending band concerts with, some back to grade school. It was sad knowing this was the last time.

The kids Had a lot of fun. Here the Saturn V players -- all members of the Jazz Orchestra, and together in the same high school jazz combo for three years -- pose after the show.

Their last number: In The Mood, the old Glenn Miller standby:

While this Jazz Orchestra is done, Saturn V will live on doing gigs through the summer. Check their MySpace page for details!

What a lovely evening! It seems a bit bittersweet. Good luck to them all. We will miss seeing them at Rolling Meadows.
