Waukegan - Black Friday edition
When we went to Illinois for Thanksgiving weekend, my nephew Eddie gave us a Black Friday tour of Downtown Waukegan.
There was plenty of parking for Black Friday shoppers at the onetime retail mecca, Genesee Street. Not that there is any place left to shop.
Here's a fine retail space. Signage could use an upgrade, though:

The most active business seems to be demolition.
The Waukegan News Sun building has seen better days.

Great ghost sign at the original Ted's, from when air conditioning was a big deal and PBR wasn't just for hipsters.
Ted's wasn't serving, so we drove to Wadsworth for lunch. I never thought that there would be a better restaurant scene in Wadsworth than in Downtown Waukegan.

Rob dines on fried gator tail. Tastes like -- fried gator tail!
Does anybody remember the 1970s Waukegan shopping jingle? I remember it like this:
Downtown Waukegan is the place to be
There's shopping and dining and a lot to see
If you pay a visit to your favorite store
Then you can be sure that you'll be back for more
It didn't work very well.
