Random thoughts from the European trip.
In no particular order.
I love automatic transmissions.
I'm glad I didn't drive in England.
Why does Paris, home of great art, beautiful buildings, and wonderful food, smell like stale urine?
Why does Paris smell like pee even when there are free public toilets everywhere?
Why does Paris stink while London, Bern, Ajaccio and even Nice smell ok?
I mastered the manual transmission. The transmission failure in the rental car on the way to the airport was entirely coincidental.
Corsicans are wonderful people.
Switzerland is beautiful and wonderful, what I saw of it.
The Italian tollway wasn't as scary as I expected.
Eastern France is gorgeous.
The coast road from Ajaccio to Calvi is stunning, beautiful and absolutely terrifying.
Don't count on Google maps for Corsican driving times. The roads are like nothing in the states.
European hotels often lack shower curtains. Are you supposed to bring your own?
U.K. Credit cards have little computer chips embedded in them. Many vending machines, like those for tickets to the London Tube, don't work with non-chip credit cards.
The ATMs, or "cash dispensers," work fine without an embedded chip.
Bern has the worlds coolest parking garage and the nicest trains I've seen.
Nice is a hellhole.
The Nice jazz festival has a much better lineup than Montreaux, but it has the downside of being in Nice.
Monaco appears to be an entirely-paved nation.
I wish we had gone to see Peggy in Scotland instead of going to Paris.
They have topless bathing at Ajaccio beach in Corsica. Dan, Rob and I noticed that several hours before Vickie did.
Topless bathing is not always and everywhere a good thing.
It's great to be back in the good old USA.

I'm surprised that your cards in the US don't have the chip. We've had them for years now.
I wish you had visited me but I am so sorry that you didn't like Paris more. I love the place and never notice the smell - except for perhaps once in the Metro. To be fair, I often visit Paris in the winter and have only been there once in the summer. When I was there in the summer, I kept myself topped up on glorious vin rouge!
I'm pleased you didn't stop at a French rest area as you would have been faced with the "hole in the floor" style of toilet. If Paris upset you, this would have sent you running and screaming.
I miss wide straight roads too, but have learned to deal with windy European roads and the roundabouts.
I look forward to the photos!!!
