Hawk on a walk

I like foggy mornings. It makes everything seem mysterious for a little while. So dog and I set out yesterday for a walk in the fog, and we come across this majestic hawk, flying with what looked like a rag to sit on this wire.

The hawk flew away when we got close, leaving the "rag," which turned out to be the leftovers of a squirrel. Not so majestic, but cool in a foggy day way.

One sees loads of interesting things while walking the dog! Any idea what sort of hawk that was? Looked a bit small to be a red-tailed hawk.

Peggy, it looked big up close, but it wasn't red-tailed. A suburban squirrel-hawk, I guess?
