Chess Club
Bobby is in the Chess Club at school. I try to get down there to help out when I can. By "helping out" it mostly means wandering around and making sure the board is set up right, and intervening when they make moves that the rules don't permit (ones some of my tax clients might call "a bit agressive").
Bobby had a good day, winning his game.
It's funny watching, as the kid games take such wild swings. It's normal to see a player down a queen one minute up a rook a minute later, then checkmated after that. Like this game:
These are two of the better players; in fact, this game was the tiebreaker for third place in the club tournament. Danielle is up a rook, a night and a bishop, after being down a queen. Danielle went on to lose.
Mr. Munson comes in to coach. My hat's off to him; he coaches at all the schools in town, and he does a nice job with the kids. The moms who come in to run the tournament and keep order are great, too. I they are very nice to me, even though I only make it in to help every few weeks.
